September was nothing short of extraordinary for our foster program here at The NOAH Center. In just one month, 631 pets found safe haven in foster homes—an all-time record for us!
This milestone is more than a number. It represents hundreds of kittens and puppies who were warm, fed, and loved when they needed it most. For fragile bottle babies without moms, nervous mother cats with litters, and young puppies not yet ready for adoption, a foster home is more than shelter—it’s a lifeline.
We often say fostering is crucial to our mission, and we mean it. Quite simply, we could not save as many lives as we do without our foster families. And we are proud to say
our own staff leads by example, opening their homes to some of our most vulnerable rescues:

Sara, our Operations Director – While overseeing the entire shelter, she’s also caring for a mother dog and her puppies, plus a special-needs kitten named Leg-O-Less.

Tabitha, our Animal Care Coordinator – She’s nurturing her very first foster, a four-week-old kitten named Candy Corn, who started out needing syringe feedings but now eagerly laps up his meals.

Monica, one of our Matchmakers – In addition to helping pets find their forever homes each day, she’s fostering Wendi and her kittens, giving them space to thrive while ensuring the kittens get essential socialization.

Kayla, another dedicated Matchmaker – She’s been fostering puppies for years. Currently, she’s caring for Naveen, a sweet Lab puppy who just needs a little more time before adoption.

Kriss, our Foster Care Assistant – She’s just wrapping up with a mom and her kittens. Most have already returned for their spay/neuter surgeries, but two kittens remain with her until they’re big enough.

Elizabeth, Foster Care Coordinator – caring for five very special kittens, including a precious baby named Whamo who was rescued from a dump with severe injuries and no eyes, and Agnar, a single kitten who has already overcome incredible odds. Once Whamo finishes quarantine, the two will grow together as companions. She also has three bottle babies, Cecil, Charm, and Corky, each with congenital challenges. This round-the-clock care gives them the chance their mother couldn’t give them, and she’s spayed now so no future litters will face the same risks.
These stories are just a small window into the heart of fostering—the long nights, the worries, and the little victories. Our staff experience these moments right alongside our volunteer fosters, because in the end, we’re all part of the same team giving these pets a chance to thrive.
Because of our extraordinary foster network and because of donors like you, we’re able to say yes to the ones who need us most. September’s record of 631 fostered pets is not just an achievement, it’s a promise fulfilled: every animal deserves warmth, nourishment, and love on their journey to a forever home.
