Frequently Asked Questions

What behaviors can I expect from my dogs breed?

The NOAH Center does our absolute best to identify the breeds or mixes of breeds that come into our shelter during their initial examinations, but without DNA testing, it is impossible to be certain.

Before searching for a new friend, we recommend considering what traits would work with your lifestyle and then researching dog breeds to find which ones may be the best fit. Consider this: do you have children, other dogs, small animals in the home? Do you live an active lifestyle where you're outside often or do you work long hours outside of the home? The link below will take you to a comprehensive list of dog breeds and breaks down common behaviors for each breed based on several key components such as family life, physical characteristics, social habits, and common personality traits. Doing this research prior to starting your search for the perfect dog, will help ensure that you find the best fit possible.

If you have already adopted a new friend and are wondering what you might be able to expect from your dog based on his or her breed, this is also a great resource!
